Understanding NPS (National Pension System)
NPS is a market-linked retirement scheme introduced by the Government of India. It allows you to invest in a mix of Equity (E), Corporate Bonds (C), and Government Securities (G).
Low Cost
NPS is one of the lowest-cost investment products in the world, with fund management charges as low as 0.01%. This ensures more of your money works for you.
Market Returns
Unlike PPF or EPF, NPS invests a portion in equity markets, offering the potential for higher inflation-beating returns over the long term.
Calculation Logic
The calculator estimates the total corpus using the compound interest formula on monthly contributions.
Where P is the monthly contribution, r is the annual return rate, and t is the years to retirement.
Withdrawal Rules (at age 60)
- Lump Sum: You can withdraw up to 60% of the accumulated corpus. This amount is tax-free.
- Annuity (Pension): At least 40% of the corpus must be used to buy an annuity plan from an insurance provider, which gives you a monthly pension. The pension is taxable.
